Yeovil College recognise Yarlington in annual awards

Yarlington Housing Group has been awarded ‘Large Business Employer of the Year’ by Yeovil College in its annual Shining Star Awards.

The Yeovil-based housing provider was delighted to accept the award in recognition of its apprenticeship scheme offering opportunities in its Property Solutions division where apprentices are trained as Multi-Skilled Operatives. Apprentices obtain skills and training in plumbing, heating and gas servicing, carpentry, painting and decorating and electrical repairs alongside classroom-based learning, resulting in the apprentices receiving trade qualifications.

Amy Hayes, Apprenticeship Coordinator (Construction) at Yeovil College, said:

“Yarlington is an excellent employer of apprentices and deserves recognition for their continued support, development and commitment towards apprentices. The Group demonstrates an innovative and flexible approach to getting the best out of apprentices, and we are proud to be working with them to provide great opportunities to current, future and potential learners.”

Yarlington has been working closely with Yeovil College since 2018 and is delighted to have seen many positive outcomes for students since that time. The award is a great testament to the hard work and dedication that goes into Yarlington’s bespoke apprenticeship scheme and forms part of the group’s commitment to increasing employment and training opportunities.

By providing practical experiences, supported by professionals, the group aims to empower young people and actively increase employment chances, providing equal opportunity to all. This work remains essential as we enter the recovery phase from COVID-19 and we are pleased to say that our support of Yeovil College – Somerset’s top performing college – will continue.

“We are thrilled to have been recognised for our apprenticeship programme and we’re extremely proud of our 11 trades apprentices who have shown their commitment to becoming qualified Multi-Skilled Operatives (MSO’s). As a housing provider with over 10,000 homes to maintain across South Somerset, Dorset and Devon, we have a huge variety of repair and maintenance jobs covering all trades and our MSO’s need the knowledge and skills to repair and maintain our properties to a high standard for our customers.

“We believe it’s important to provide employment and training opportunities for local people and we like to invest in new talent but we also encourage and support professional development to help colleagues reach their full potential and we are looking forward to watching our current apprentices become the leaders of tomorrow at Yarlington.” – Colin Gallaugher, Director of Commercial Services at Yarlington Housing Group
