Retirement Living Information
Accommodation
Residents living in a Retirement Living scheme have their own flat or bungalow, with a community alarm system to enable residents to call for help in an emergency. The majority of schemes have a communal lounge with a kitchen, and some have disabled bathing and laundry facilities and a guest bedroom.
Scheme Manager
All schemes have a Scheme Manager on site 2 half-days a week. The Scheme Manager has overall responsibility for the scheme. This means making sure that residents receive services of the highest possible standard, and that communal areas are kept in good order.
Scheme Manager is responsible for making sure all residents are safe and well and that the scheme is a safe environment to live.
They are also responsible for promoting the scheme and encouraging tenants to activities within the communal room.
Support Co-ordinator
Yarlington Housing Group offers a housing related support service to residents that can be accessed on a needs basis. All residents who need support are referred to the Support Services team who will make an appointment to carry out an assessment. Any support required is then recorded in a tenants personal support plan.
The main daily duty of the Support Co-ordinator is to make sure all residents are safe and well. The Support Co-ordinator is trained to assess the needs of each resident and take any necessary action in conjunction with the resident.
The Support Co-ordinator is there to make sure that residents get all the support they require, but does not provide for all their care needs in person.
The Support Co-ordinator will liaise with Social Services, Health Services and other outside agencies to arrange appropriate services such as home care, meals on wheels and visits by a community nurse.
Social Activities
Some schemes have a communal lounge where a number of social activities take place. All residents are very welcome to join in, although there is no obligation to do so.
Costs
Residents pay:
- Rent for their flat
- Service charge for the Scheme Manager service and equipping and heating the communal areas
- Alarm charge of £3.50 per week for their community alarm
- Support charge (only if support is required)
Financial help may be available to cover the costs of living on a Retirement Living scheme and you would be given full advice on this.
Eligibility/ How to apply
Sheltered housing is for residents over 60, although we also have a few properties that are less suitable for older people that we may be able to let to people aged 55 and over. To apply for Retirement Living you need to complete a housing application. This can be done either online at: www.homefindersomerset.co.uk or contact Yarlington on 01935 404500 for a paper version.

-
Residents are allowed to have family and friends to stay overnight, but only for a maximum of 3 nights. The Scheme Manager/ Control Centre also need to be informed for health and safety reasons. The guestroom facility can also be booked to accommodate visits.
