Extra Care Information
Accommodation
Residents living in an Extra Care Housing have their own flat or bungalow, which have a community alarm system to enable residents to call for help in an emergency.
All Extra Care schemes have a communal lounge with a kitchen and some have disabled bathing and laundry facilities and a guest bedroom.
Scheme Managers
All Extra Care schemes have a scheme manager on scheme Monday to Friday 8am- 4pm and they have an overall responsibility for the scheme. This means making sure that residents receive services of the highest possible standard, and that communal areas are kept in good order. They are also responsible for delivering housing related support to residents. This support is carried out to the residents assessed needs.
A small and dedicated team of carers provide scheme cover when the scheme manager is off site to ensure that there is always a member of staff on site at all times.
Individual Care
Care is provided to residents if needed. The carers work for an agency under contract to Social Services – but the aim will always be that, wherever possible, residents will be looked after by carers, who they know. Residents' needs are assessed on an individual basis so that we can make sure that each resident receives all the help they need with everyday life. This might include help with getting up in the morning, getting dressed, bathing, cleaning, laundry, collecting prescriptions & pensions and many other small tasks.
Midday Meals
A cooked midday meal is also provided at every scheme.
Social Activities
Some schemes have a communal lounge where a number of social activities take place. All residents are very welcome to join in, although there is no obligation to do so.
Costs
Residents pay:
- Rent for their flat
- Support Charge
- Service Charge- for equipping and heating the communal areas
Financial help may be available to cover the costs of living on a sheltered scheme and you would be given full advice on this.
Eligibility /Applying for Extra Care Housing
Eligibility for extra care housing is based on a comprehensive care assessment of each individual. The decision will be made jointly by the Extra Care Support Co-ordinator, Supported Housing Officer and Social Services.
To apply for Extra Care Housing you need to complete a housing application. This can be done either online at: www.homefindersomerset.co.uk or contact Yarlington on 01935 404500 for a paper version. Once completed and returned a Supported Housing Officer will then be in touch to arrange a Support Needs Assessment visit.

-
Pets are only permitted in properties that have direct access to the outside. Pets are not allowed in the communal areas.
